What Even Is AI Mode
At Google I/O 2026, AI Mode graduated from experimental feature to search core — it now searches your Gmail and Google Photos and supports image and voice input.
Technically it's a Query Fan-out + RAG architecture: queries are decomposed into sub-queries run in parallel, information is pulled from Google's index, and Gemini 3 Flash generates a structured answer. It integrates the entire Google ecosystem — Maps, Shopping, YouTube, and more.
